Industrial Storm Water Consultant


Environmental consulting company with over 1,000 clients seeks an experienced, self-motivated individual for a full-time Industrial Storm Water Consultant position. The position requires at least 3 years of California Industrial Storm Water experience and a Qualified Industrial Storm Water Practitioner (QISP) certification. The selected individual will split time in office and in the field at client sites. 

Tasks include, but are not limited to: site assessment; conducting facility Best Management Practice (BMP) inspections; client interface; technical plan writing; storm water sampling and working in the rain. Ability to interpret and apply the requirements of the California Industrial General Permit (IGP) for Storm Water Discharges is integral to successfully carrying out these tasks. 

An ideal candidate will have demonstrable environmental regulatory experience with varying types of industrial facilities relevant to the California Industrial General Permit (IGP) for Storm Water Discharges.


  • Field work: site visits, conducting inspections, evaluating potential pollutant sources, BMP assessment, data collection
  • Plan writing: Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans
  • Facility mapping and diagram creation
  • Rain work: collecting storm water samples at client sites during rain events; includes overtime and weekends as needed
  • Interpreting laboratory analytical reports for storm water samples
  • Compliance assessment: evaluate facility SWPPP, implemented BMPs, inspection reports, and sample results to advise client about their level of compliance with the IGP
  • Exceedance Response Action (ERA): identify pollutant sources and create action plans for clients to reduce industrial pollutants at their facilities
  • Utilization of the Storm Water Multiple Application Reporting and Tracking System (SMARTS)
  • Comprehend and apply the IGP and other applicable regulations
  • Manage and complete a significant volume of work under deadline
  • Special projects and additional tasks as assigned
  • Training in additional environmental compliance areas such as Hazardous Materials Business Plans (HMBPs) and Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures Plans (SPCCs)


  • Strong understanding of the California Industrial General Permit (IGP) for Storm Water Discharges
  • 3+ years of Industrial Storm Water experience including facility BMP assessment, SWPPP writing; and ERA plan writing
  • Ability to interpret plans and diagrams
  • Experience with field water sampling equipment and procedures
  • Familiarity with SMARTS
  • Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Experience with Google Earth and Corel Draw a plus
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and detail oriented
  • Bachelor’s Degree in an environmental field required
  • Spanish speaking a plus
  • Experience with HMBPs, SPCCs, or other EHS regulations a plus
  • Reliable transportation and valid driver's license are mandatory: a background and driver's license check will be performed

Environmental Consulting Company seeking a versatile, motivated individual for a full-time consultant role. The position is ideal for candidates with a desire to gain environmental consulting experience and grow within the industry. The position consists of a wide range of tasks including, but not limited to, field work; site assessment; interfacing with clients; storm water sampling; technical plan writing; interpreting and applying regulations; interpreting and applying data; and conveying data to State reporting databases. Candidates should be excited about being on the go and in the field up to 75% of the time. 


  • Entry-level, full-time position
