Federal & California Stormwater Violations, Regulations & Penalties/Fines
The California State Water Board’s new Industrial General Permit (IGP) calls for potential civil penalties as high as $37,500 per calendar day for any person who violates IGP conditions. Fines up to $10,000 and imprisonment are also possible for falsification of compliance records required by the IGP.
If my storm water compliance were questioned today, how well could I prove that my facility is complying with regulations?
There has been $100’s of millions in penalties and fines levied by State and Federal agencies to date:
- In May 2007, in the cities of Los Angeles and Long Beach, the EPA and Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board (LARWQCB) conducted 55 on-site audits resulting in numerous enforcement actions and fines. Based on information currently available, the EPA levied a total of $249,573 in fines to three of these sites alone.
